Healthy Eating

In Nigeria and maybe some other developing or underdeveloped countries, many people eat just for the sole aim of staying alive, more like to eat whatever is available and not always to stay healthy, i.e, eat what the body requires.

But really, what is healthy eating and what's the benefit?
Come with me as  we surf these lines together.

Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love.

We all know that eating right can help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid certain health problems, but your diet can also have a profound effect on your mood and sense of wellbeing.

Eating a healthy diet doesn’t have to be overly complicated. While some specific foods or nutrients have been shown to have a beneficial effect on mood, it’s your overall dietary pattern that is most important.
While some extreme diets may suggest otherwise, we all need a balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in our diets to sustain a healthy body. You don’t need to eliminate certain categories of food from your diet, but rather select the healthiest options from each category in correct proportions.

The essential steps  to eating healthy are to eat mostly foods derived from plants—vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes (beans, peas, lentils)—and limit highly processed foods.

Here are our guidelines for building a healthy diet for yourself.

1. Eat a wide assortment of foods, it helps ensure that you get all of the disease-fighting potential that foods offer.

2. Portion control is the key.

3. Choose whole fruits over juice for more fiber. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables are good options.

4. Eat more whole grains like whole wheat, barley and oats

5. Limit refined grains and sugars

6. Eat more of fish and nuts

7. Cut down on animal fats

8. Cut down on trans fats: Trans fats are supplied by partially hydrogenated vegetable oils used in many processed foods (such as commercial baked goods, snack foods and stick margarines) and fast foods (such as French fries).

9. Get calcium from low-fat or nonfat dairy products and fortified foods such as some orange juices and soy drinks

10. Choose food over supplements: Supplements cannot substitute for a healthy diet, which supplies countless other potentially beneficial compounds besides vitamins and minerals.

See these habits you can live by—and that will change the way you eat.

* Eat all the foods you enjoy—but the key is to do it in smaller quantities
* have a meal plan
* stop being Concious of calorie intakes
* let you be exciting, you know like having bright colors.
* prepare and store food so they can be readily gotten at your hungry hours
* eat lunch like a king even as you make breakfast very important
* think of eating as something enjoyable and something you do without guilt or without judging yourself
*  Eat the rainbow will supply your body with a range of disease-fighting phytonutrients, and will naturally fill you up to help you cut back on unhealthy foods.
*  eat healthy 80% of the time and save 20% for splurges.

You can't deter yourself from healthy eating, you should be happy doing it.

Thanks for your time friends, waiting for your feedbacks.
